Primavera Sound Day One: Andrew Bird, Aphex Twin…

Day one of the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona came to a close, and though the crowd shuffled away worn out and bleary-eyed, there was still the excited hubbub of fans satisfied with the day’s shows. If the performances had continued, then people would still be there dancing holes into the ground. Watch the video of day one.

After checking out Marnie Stern, Lightning Bolt and Yo La Tengo, I hurried to see Andrew Bird, The Bug, and Jay Reatard. To finish the first day of the festival, two stunning acts from Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, complete with visuals and electronic wizardry, led the entertainment into the wee morning hours. New Warp Records Site: Warp.net

Warp Records has launched a new web site Warp.net, where you can stream songs of signed artists for free from a playlist, and have quick access to the latest Warp news, events and releases.

You can embed the Official Warp Playlist by copying the usual bit of html code. When Warp adds and changes songs on the Playlist, the embedded player will update correspondingly. It gets better; each Warp artist’s page has its own unique embeddable player, which is also updated with new releases. Now you can have your own official Aphex Twin or Grizzly Bear widget. Squarepusher - Just a Souvenir (Warp 2008)

Em Português

British veteran producer and bass virtuoso Tom Jenkinson has been the reference for the Experimental Electronica/Jazz scene for the last fifteen years.

I'm listening to his new album Just a Souvenir which is available on Bleep while it's still hot, and it's mouth watering. Jenkinson keeps cranking out estimable drumbeats and basslines, this time with a traditional distortion/rock twist in tracks like Tensor in Green and Planet Gear. It even sounds like there are some virtuous improv interludes between songs. Be wary, Squarepusher has always been highly technical and somewhat difficult to understand, so I don't recommend this to sensitive ears.

The attention given to quality of sound and composition is quite appealing. Squarepusher maintains his exceptionally high standards and competence, and puts out yet another imaginative album for us avid fans to drool over. Here's a playlist for listening.
