Petri Purho Includes Free Music in Experimental Gameplay

Petri Purho’s entry for the Experimental Gameplay Project, called Post I.T. Shooter, is made out of post-it notes (!), and ends up leading to a vast archive of weird electronic music.

The music featured is The Love God by Martinibomb, which you stream and download for free at Comfort Stand Recordings. Music Games Help Music Sales, EA Teams with Cherry Lane

Music games are combining, and contributing to, both of the former rival industry’s revenues; the NPD group shows that 22 percent of music buyers reported playing a music-based video game in the past three months. Game developers are also teaming up with music labels to promote music through their games, like the joint venture announced today between Electronic Arts and Cherry Lane Music, to create the new music publishing company, Next Level Music LLC. Minneapolis-based start-up Zivix LLC is developing a controller for Guitar Hero that is actually a real guitar, to be available 2009. The company believes that Guitar Hero enthusiasts will prefer the real thing to the plastic counterpart, but will they pay $249.99 for the Zivix’s Headliner guitar when they can get a PlayStation 2 guitar controller for $39.99? Electonic Arts To Develop Music Games

Electronic Arts, video game publisher of popular titles like The Sims and Spore, is currently helping MTV distribute the music video game Rock Band, but at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, EA’s Chief Operating Officer John Pleasants indicated that the company might be developing a their own music game in the near future by commenting:

“There are lots of other things you can do with music, and we’re working on interesting things, and we know our competition is working on interesting things.”
