The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) says that global sales in 2008 decreased 8.3 percent to $18.4 billion in 2008. That number takes in account all forms of revenue: physical sales, digital sales and performance rights. The recording industry blames piracy, and most likely there is some truth to that assumption. Record Store Day Boosts Sales, Pirate Bay Reaction
Indie and major labels produced 82 limited-edition exclusive releases for Record Store Day, and most of the indie stores sold considerably better than last year’s Record Store Day. Munich-based industrial design firm Pilotfish has presented its new concept for mobile music, the Ondo music editing mobile. Theoretically, the phone has a mixing function and three removable recording sticks that can be separately clipped onto musical instruments to capture audio. Pirate Bay Verdict: Guilty
