If you use the music service Spotify, beware. The Swedish company says that hackers were able to break into the service at the end of 2008, and steal users’ personal details. Youtube Symphony Orchestra Musicians Have Been Chosen

Musicians for the Youtube Symphony Orchestra have been selected, and all their videos are posted on YouTube, organized by instrument section. Winners from 30 countries will travel to New York to participate in a three-day classical music summit, and then perform at Carnegie Hall on 15 April under San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas. Music That Makes You Dumb?

CalTech grad student Virgil Griffith has conducted an interesting (albeit somewhat unscientific) study relating music preferences with SAT scores. While SAT scores are criticized for not accurately determining intelligence, the results show that the “smartest” students’ favorite musician is Beethoven, with an average SAT score of 1371, and at the other end of the spectrum is Lil’ Wayne, with an average score of 889.

Neil Young Supports Warner Music Against YouTube

Neil Young has voiced his support for Warner Music Group’s policy of muting and deleting music videos on Youtube, after negotiations between the two media giants failed. We’ve covered Warner’s draconian tactics in the past, and now Neil Young defends that Warner needs to be better compensated by posting the following on his site:

You Tube was in its fledgling stages when Warner made an early deal to work with them. Today, other labels have made more lucrative deals for their artists at You Tube.”

U.S. indie band MGMT has threatened to sue French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s party for using their song Kids without permission. It’s one of those ironic, rare moments when a politician’s plan backfires, because Sarkozy is one of the leaders of the “fight against piracy”, having implemented, in France, the first “three strikes” law that gets a user disconnected based on three formal copyright complaints.
