New York Philharmonic Performs Free Concerts in the Parks

The New York Philharmonic will give free concerts from July 14 to July 17 for this year’s Concerts in the Parks. Two of the shows will be on Central Park’s Great Lawn. The concerts begin at 8pm, and the orchestra will perform selected pieces from Mozart, Beethoven, Copeland and Mahler.

Alan Gilbert was appointed music director of the New York Philharmonic in 2007, and will officially replace Lorin Maazel in September. Gilbert isn’t new to the Philharmonic; both of his parents are Philharmonic violinists, and he has been guest conductor many times over the past decade.
